Proving that they haven’t learned anything from previous attempts to make videogames into movies, Sony has reportedly signed up Gamer director Brian Taylor to write and direct a film adaptation of Twisted Metal. Yes, that’s Twisted Metal, the vehicular combat game.

So maybe not that different to Gamer, actually, at least in terms of intellectual worth.
The movie will apparently feature the same Twisted Metal drive-to-the-death event, as well as the series’ own wish master, Calypso, although no actual story or actor details have been revealed yet. I’m guessing somebody’s going to fall for Dollface, though, because she’s a chick and stuff.
Taylor will be teaming up with Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance producers Avi and Ari Arad, who are incidentally also working on the Mass Effect and Uncharted film projects. If an asteroid were to land on the right meeting over at Sony Pictures HQ, it could take out, like, half of the game-to-movie industry.
