Lack of Mass Effect 3 PC controller support explained

17 February 2012

So Mass Effect 3 on PC won’t include official controller support, and it turns out that’s because the dev team just didn’t get around to it. Programming buttons is time-consuming stuff.

“There is a development cost in terms of time/effort to get all the graphical user interfaces so 360 buttons show up on PC,” senior designer Manveer Heir explained on Twitter.

“It may seem minor, but our GUI team was already stretched thin, and things were coming in at the last minute, so we couldn’t add more work.”

Responding to a suggestion that BioWare simply didn’t “give a damn”, Heir said that “Definitely not ‘we don’t give a damn’. It’s unfortunate and I understand why people are upset, but there are dev realities, sadly.”

Of course, the more conspiracy-minded of you out there might point to the hot, new, expensive range of Mass Effect 3-themed PC peripherals from Razer, including a keyboard and mouse tagged at about R1120 and R650 respectively. Hm.
