EA launch Mass Effect 3 – into space

17 February 2012

Just when you thought the Mass Effect 3’s hype meter couldn’t go any higher, EA has announced a new marketing plan to push it up into space. Literally.

Next week, the publisher will be strapping an unconfirmed number of copies of the game onto high altitude weather balloons, and launching them into the stratosphere from New York, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Berlin, London and Paris.

Each copy of the game will have a GPS device attached to it, and you’ll be able to track their locations on the official Mass Effect website and maybe get yourself a copy before it comes out.

Obviously, unless you own an galaxy-grade tractor beam, you’ll have to wait until they actually land, but you’ve still got a few days to invent one so that’s an option. I’ve also got some little fish-shaped magnets on my fridge that could maybe work if I found a really long stick and attached the magnets with Prestik.

For everybody else, the game’s out on 9 March, although there’s probably a good argument to be made that space is a more effective distribution channel than Origin. Lol.
