EA’s remake of classic game Syndicate is due out next week, but it’s not all champagne and tiny sandwiches at developer Starbreeze’s studio. Due to the decreased workload of the game being finished, the Swedish developer has had to cut 25 jobs. Ouch.
Mikael Nermark, CEO of Starbreeze, said in a statement, “It is sad that we are forced to make staff cutbacks affecting employees. But we have to reduce staff after the final delivery of the (sic) Syndicate.”
It’s not just lower level staff on the outs either, a member of the board, Peter Tornquist is also resigning from his position, and it seems Starbreeze isn’t planning on replacing him either.
It is unfortunate that there have to be so many cuts, especially right after completing a major project, although it is understandable and hopefully the employees knew in advance what was going to happen upon completion of the game.
