Spec Ops: The Line release date announced

Looking forward to Spec Ops: The Line? So are we – and now you can jot down the official date it’ll be hitting our shores – 29 June 2012.

Gamers who pre-order the game will also get upgraded to the Premium Edition – which includes the FUBAR pack – though this is currently only applicable to North America, but it isn’t unreasonable to expect a similar deal to happen here.

The FUBAR Pack contains exclusive accessories allowing players to customize their characters with unique and visually distinctive items.

MyGaming was given the opportunity to get a hands-on preview of a solid chunk of the game, which has taken a few steps back from its first-person Spec Ops roots, and is now a third-person shooter with standard cover mechanics. The game is looking to be an epic tale of military strife, and hopefully a welcome change from the typical shooter genre.

Aside from the much-covered single player campaign, the game’s multiplayer section will also get a few benefits from the Premium Edition upgrade:

  • Twice the amount of experience points will be awarded during the first week of play, enabling gamers to expedite character ranking;
  • The AK-47 weapon will unlock at rank one;
  • The Officer Class will unlock at rank one. This character class includes several team-based advantages, such as reducing damage to teammates and increasing the effectiveness of other classes;

Here’s our first glimpse at the multiplayer:

Look forward to Spec Ops: The Line for Xbox 360, PC and PlayStation 3 on 29 June 2012, with more announcements regarding local pre-order incentives to come soon.
