Rovio shopping for acquisitions, publishing

Angry Birds

What do you do when your quirky iPhone game makes you ONE BILLION DOLLARS? You make like Coca-Cola and buy EVERYONE.

Rovio, creator of Angry Birds, is interested in doing a bit of shopping in the form of acquisitions, as well as possibly being a publisher for other developers. The Angry Birds craze has made the company worth an estimated $1.2 billion, although Rovio says that figure may be a little low. #humblebrags

When you have that much money, you have to be careful not to get too carried away. We’ve all made some regrettable purchases when getting an unexpected windfall.

CEO Mikael Hed explains, “It would be very easy for us to just go shopping; to get lasting benefit is the hard part.”

He also discusses Rovio’s desire to begin publishing, saying that the methods employed to make Angry Birds such a success could be used for other developers.

The CEO also revealed that Rovio has a new IP in the works, a game not in any way associated with the Angry Birds franchise. This game should be available “in a couple of months”.
