Indie smash-hit, The Binding of Isaac, has been blocked for release on the 3DS eShop because Nintendo apparently decided it’s offensive.

“After a long internal debate, Nintendo has decided NOT to allow the Binding of Isaac on the 3DS,” posted game creator Edmund McMillen on Twitter.

“As many assumed, the reasons were due to the games ‘questionable religious content. Thank GOD Steam exists!” he added, when asked why.

The Binding of Isaac references a story in the Hebrew Bible in which Abraham is commanded by God to sacrifice his son, Isaac, as a sort of test of Abraham’s faith. Which totally proves God likes playing games, so I don’t get what the problem is.

In the game, Isaac’s own threatened life is simply re-envisioned as a series of randomly-generated dungeons, which is really just a metaphor for the same thing when you think about it.

The game has already been out on Steam for several months. Interestingly enough, the game has a 16+ age restriction in Germany for blasphemy.
