In news that’s doubtless going to precede a whole lot of speculative whining about how it’s never going to be as good as the original, it looks like there’s a new Baldur’s Gate game in development.
It’s never going to be as good as the original, etc.
A new teaser site at BaldursGate.com shows the series’ iconic skull, with the words of Candlekeep’s doom prophet Alaundo warning that “The Lord of Murder shall perish, but in his doom he shall spawn a score of mortal progeny, chaos will be sown by their passage.”
According to a report over on GameBanshee, the game is being developed by Beamdog, the company co-founded by BioWare veteran Trent Oster, who worked on the original Baldur’s Gate as well as Neverwinter Nights.
Oster confirmed that the studio is “hoping to announce something soon”, and that this wasn’t related to the Baldur’s Gate complete collection re-release on Steam.
I bet it’s an FPS reboot. Actually I don’t, but wouldn’t that be hilarious?

Another theory doing the rounds is that they’re busy adapting Baldur’s Gate for play on Apple devices.
I’m not about to get excited about this just yet.
