Metacritic removing Mass Effect 3 troll reviews

7 March 2012

In news that’s all the more stupid for its tragic inevitability, Metacritic has been forced to remove a bunch of user reviews of Mass Effect 3 when it became quickly obvious trolls were using the site to push their own agenda.

What agenda? I don’t know, but apparently writing inflammatory, spoiler-filled reviews of a game you haven’t played is really important business for some people.

“We have already removed user reviews which have broken our terms of use. We will continue to monitor user reviews and take the steps needed to ensure our users both comply with those terms and do not have to read other reviews which break them,” Metacritic editor in chief Marc Doyle told Kotaku.

Within minutes of the game’s midnight launch in America, negative reviews were posted to Metacritic.

Many of the accounts had been registered specifically to post those reviews, proving this is not only the work of people with nothing better to do, but also complete morons. As expected.
