Microsoft wants you to achieve more while gaming

12 March 2012

In an unearthed report, courtesy of Xbox360Achievments.org, it has come to light that Microsoft intends to increase the achievement limit on Xbox Live Arcade games.

Previously the rules were as follows:

  • Base: 200 Gamerscore / Max of 20 Achievements
  • DLC: Up to 50 Gamerscore + 5 Achievements per Quarter (3 Max)
  • Total: Up to 350 Gamerscore / 35 Achievements

The new rules are set to more than double that:

  • Base: 400 Gamerscore / Max of 30 Achievements
  • DLC: Up to 100 Gamerscore + 8 Achievements per Quarter (4 Max)
  • Total: Up to 800 Gamerscore / 62 Achievements

The new policy is speculated to have been influenced by the “achievement whores” out there whose desire to play games is proportional to the number of achievements they can earn in doing so, a speculation I’m inclined to agree with.

Sources indicate that between the 1st of April and the 31st of May, developers will still be able to choose which policy they would like to use. However, after the 1st of June it will be compulsory for all releases.
