Molyjam 2012 might be the best thing ever

“You know, my dream for gaming is where in one game you’ll shoot someone and then during a game of say FIFA you’ll see their son crying.” ~ Peter Molydeux

And now, that game might be a reality. Or, like, a game where you play a life support machine in a hospital but during the night you turn into a diseased rat. Or a game in which you have an imaginary friend who doesn’t believe you are real, and you must convince them that you are. Or, oooor, a game in which you control a waterfall and must travel the world hiding outdoor passages from adventurers. So many great game ideas, and a whole weekend to make them.

Introducing What Would Molydeux? Molyjam 2012 – an event all about making the games that Peter Molyneux’s Twitter doppelgänger Peter Molydeux comes up with.

That sounds like a crazy game concept too, doesn’t it? You also press the X button to hug kittens for points.

It all started with a tweet from Double Fine programmer Anna Kipnis:

has there already been an indie game jam where each team picks an idea from @petermolydeux and goes for it? it needs to happen.

Now it’s happening – and it looks like even the real Peter Molyneux might be taking part, after he said on Twitter that he was “signed up and excited”. Wait and see on that one, maybe.

The event is taking place 31 March to 1 April, officially in San Francisco, New York, and the UK – although pretty much anybody can get involved informally.

James told us we’re not allowed to use the words “amazing” or “awesome” anymore unless we’re literally on the floor, in tears, and experiencing some kind of real transcendence. Well, I am almost, so this qualifies as amazing and awesome.
