Bethesda to announce Elder Scrolls MMO soon

16 March 2012

Is Bethesda prepping to announce an Elder Scrolls MMO? Rumours have been going around about it for a couple of years already, but the company is now tipped to be making it official in May 2012, and showing the game at E3 and QuakeCon.

That’s according to Tom’s Guide’s mega-exclusive “industry source that wishes to remain anonymous” – so probably the mailroom guy.

The source claims the game will be set several hundred years before the events of previous Elder Scrolls titles. Players will reportedly be able to choose between three different factions, including a lion, a dragon, and “either a phoenix or an eagle, we aren’t sure”.

This information was apparently confirmed by two other, unidentified sources before publication. Asked for comment however, Bethesda predictably declined. Which is pretty much the same as admitting it’s all true, right?

As the article also points out, Bethesda and parent company ZeniMax have been advertising vacancies for employees with MMO development experience at a studio “currently working on an unannounced Massively Multiplayer Online Game (MMOG) title from its headquarters in Hunt Valley, Maryland.”

Where there’s smoke, there’s probably a burnt-out village and oh, is that a cave? Excuse me, I just have to go check this out.
