Beamdog, the dev behind the upcoming Baldur’s Gate Enhanced revamps, is hoping that its dabbling with the franchise will eventually lead to the development of Baldur’s Gate 3.
Speaking to GameSpy, Beamdog/Overhaul’s Cameron Tofer stated pretty clearly that “Baldur’s Gate 3 has been our long term goal.”
He was quick to point out that there was nothing in place at the moment, so don’t get too excited juuuuust yet.
“We have a lot of things to put in place before such a project can be launched. So currently there is no such project but that’s the one we want to do. Our thoughts have been that Enhanced Edition for BG 1 and 2 just make sense before there’s any Baldur’s Gate 3.”
So a developer that makes old-school games, wants to create a sequel to said games, in the spirit of those games? Obviously publishers won’t be too keen on that – there isn’t enough dubstep and shooting in that to sell really well.
So where else are old-school game sequels, true to their predecessors currently being punted? Hmmm…
“We’re totally thinking Kickstarter. It just makes so much sense and solves so many problems. I think what Brian [Fargo] is doing with Wasteland is very interesting.”
I would pay for this. Get that Kickstarter initiative started, and I will be first in line.

They should make BG3 an FPS – that would be so sweeeeeet!
