In what can only be sarcastically described as professional journalism of the highest calibre, UK tabloid The Sun has just published a shocking exposé about “Islamic extremists” using – seriously, this is brilliant – Xbox LIVE and PSN party chat to plot evil.
“Gamers can log on in groups to play against each other and — crucially — to chat in private,” writes Pulitzer not-winners, David Willetts and Tom Wells.
“Once signed in to a ‘lobby’ using a password, plotters put on Bluetooth headsets and speak securely to conspirators on the same site.”
“It’s a terrifying reality. These people waste no time finding a secure method of chatting,” a source told The Sun. “They are logging into group games over the internet and discussing terror plots. Security people know about it.”
“For millions who love these games this will be a huge shock.”
Definitely a huge shock. Who even knew the PSN supported party chat? Nobody! This goes deep.
According to the tabloid’s “government sources”, the police and “spy chiefs” are already investigating, so there’s no need for panic just yet although you might want to stock up on extra controller batteries in case of a full-scale jihad.
