Bioshock movie loses second director

Movies based on games are generally kind of awful (don’t get me started on Max Payne); but a game with an awesome story is often begging to be made into a film, and Bioshock is one of those games.

Unfortunately, the Bioshock film has been put on indefinite hold; as yet another director has left. Juan Carlos Fresnadillo has followed in Gore Verbinski’s footsteps out the door, citing budget as a major factor in his decision to leave.

Fresnadillo said, “To be honest, by now, I’m completely out of that, and developing other stuff. Right now it’s on hold. The studio and the videogame company, they have to reach some kind of agreement about the budget and the rating.”

This kind of disorganization resonates with production on the third Mortal Kombat movie, which is still yet to be made.

Studio head Ken Levine said back in November 2011 that the movie wasn’t really necessary, that he was not interested in having a movie made “just to get it made”.

On the bright side, this makes it less likely we’ll get a hastily produced crap-pile rushed out of the studio. On the not-so-bright side, we may never get a movie at all.

Just get Ubisoft to make the movie, like what they did with the Assassins Creed miniseries. Or do a full animation with the Tech used in Tintin and Avatar.
