Assassin’s Creed III Wii U details revealed

26 March 2012

The latest issue of Nintendo Power magazine has revealed the first details on the Wii U version of Assassin’s Creed 3. The Wii U console is the first next-generation gaming platform to be announced, and is planned for release in late 2012.

According to the report, the Wii U touch screen will serve as a direct, constant link to the Assassin’s Creed Animus. Nintendo Power describes the interface as a persistent on-screen map and navigation tool. Players will seemingly be constantly connected to the Animus, and database entries will apparently pop up from time to time on the touch screen controller. The Animus will act as an encyclopedia, including character biographies, and information will constantly be shared via the controller in a way which does not interrupt the flow of play.

Players will also be able to use the touch screen to quickly select different weapons, and change from dual-wield to single weapon combat quickly.

Players can also use the touch screen as an alternative view for Eagle Vision, and the controller’s built in accelerometer will allow players to control the camera view when in this mode.

Assassin’s Creed 3 is planned for release in October 2012, although the Wii U will not have been released yet. Unlike previous games in the series, it will not take place in Europe, but rather during the American Revolution. It will also feature a new protagonist: Connor Kenway.
