Xbox owners spend more time watching videos than playing games

28 March 2012

According to the latest info out of HQ, it turns out Xbox owners are using their consoles to watch videos and listen to music more than to play actual games. That’s all going to change when Fable: Journey comes out, though – you’ll see.

In the meantime though, the average household is clocking up 84 hours of time on Xbox LIVE monthly, with more than half of that spent watching TV and listening to music. The figure is also up 30 percent from last year.

“What we’re seeing is that people are turning on the Xbox to play games and then keeping it on afterwards to get other types of entertainment,” Yusuf Mehdi, head of Xbox marketing and strategy at Microsoft, told the LA Times.

Over the past year or so, Xbox had added more than 30 streaming and on-demand TV service apps to its dashboard, including Netflix, Lovefilm, Sky, and HBO. That’s in the real world, obviously – we’ve only got YouTube over here in SA.
