Meet Bioshock: Infinite’s Heavy Hitters

Bioshock Infinite Heavy Hitters

Bioshock: Infinite is undoubtedly one of the most exciting and interesting games coming out in 2012. Kevin Levine and his team at Irrational Games have shown that the Bioshock series can deliver some of the most innovative and creative enemies we’ve seen in the last couple years.

Bioshock: Infinite is no different, as we’ve already been introduced to the Motorized Patriots, Handymen and Boys of Silence, and now the Siren; but let’s just get a little more familiar with these steam-punk killing machines.

Motorized Patriots

First in the line-up are the Motorized Patriots. These empty-vessels are designed with one goal in mind: killing. Representing a twisted version of previous US presidents, the Motorized Patriots are creepy porcelain-faced machines, with no hesitation and tactics, making them incredibly dangerous. They’ll keep pushing towards you with little disregard to their own preservation.

Handyman

The Handyman is one of the more interesting enemies within the game, as their background is still relatively unknown. Placed in giant mechanical suits, there’s a slight sadness and despair surrounding this enemy type, however it’s not going to hold them back from smashing your head in. The Handyman also has tools of the trade – human beings. The Handyman can therefore pick up any enemies or friendlies around the levels and throw them at you. Got to keep on your feet around these surprisingly agile foes.

The Boys of Silence

The Boys of Silence are possibly Bioshock: Infinite’s creepiest enemies. Young men trapped in enclosed steel helmets act more as an alarm than anything else. Similar to the security cameras from Bioshock 2, the Boys of Silence pose a serious threat, but will move around and expose your location, calling out other enemies to come and attack you. There’s a mystery and fear of actually knowing what’s under those helmets.

The Siren

Completing the fourth and final member of the ‘heavy hitters’ enemy types, the Siren is a uniquely different enemy to the other three special foes. The Siren has the ability to revive and resurrect downed enemies to give them another chance at finishing you off.

The problem comes in deciding what to do when encountering a Siren. Players can challenge it head on and try killing it, also killing all the revived enemies in the process; or you can focus on the surrounding threats first and deal with her later. This should be one of those enemies that gamers will be referring back to for months on end.
