Former IGN editor, Nicalis founder, and soon to be most hated person on Japanophile forums all over the internet, Tyrone Rodriguez isn’t a big fan of Hideo Kojima.
In an interview with IndieGames, Rodriguez described the Metal Gear series as good “in spite” of its “terrible” creator, Hideo Kojima. You can almost hear the sharp intake of breath from outraged Solid Snake cosplayers.
“Konami doesn’t make good stuff,” he said, before adding that Kojima “is terrible at making games. Metal Gear is good in spite of him. I haven’t enjoyed a game of his since maybe the original Metal Gear Solid, maybe.”
Rodriguez reckons the Japanese just don’t know how to do some genres properly, explaining that it “comes down to a big cultural difference. If you like FPSes, anything from Japan is going to suck.”
He should call up Fez creator, Phil Fish, who declared at a GDC panel that modern Japanese games “just suck”. They’ve obviously got loads to talk about.
