Max Payne 3 brings bullet-time to multiplayer

Rockstar Games’ long-awaited third instalment into the Max Payne series is bringing a much-welcomed multiplayer mode, which features the single-player’s genre-defining bullet-time mechanic.

The idea of bullet-time in multiplayer always raised the problematic question: when one player activates bullet-time, what happens to everyone else?

Rockstar have created a solution to that problem, by implementing a system whereby players within view of the player who activates bullet-time, will then enter bullet-time themselves.

The system allows players to refine their accuracy and dodge incoming bullets all in glorious HD slow-motion, while engaging in a number of exciting game modes.

Gang Wars makes up a large portion of the multiplayer, whereby players can band together and take on constantly evolving story-based multiplayer scenarios. This should act as a refreshingly dynamic component to the multiplayer

Payne Killer involves two players, who take on the role of Max and a new character Raul, who have to survive an onslaught from the other players in the match. Kill either, and you become the character. Killing Max and Raul won’t be any easy task though, as players who assume their roles are stocked up with ammo and painkillers (the Max Payne series’ form of health).

By giving players a multiplayer experience which emulates the style and feel of the single-player campaign, Rockstar seem to have something unparalleled on their hands. Things are looking extremely promising so far; so let’s hope Rockstar hold steady on their ambitions.
