Valve on the hunt for Linux devs

If you’re one of the seven people in the world using Linux as your only operating system, Gabe Newell has some good news for.

It looks like Valve is trying to show a little love for the OS not typically associated with gaming, by reaching out for a Linux specialist to help port Windows games. This started with a job ad back in January, but now Mr Newell himself has been in touch with Michael Larabel of Phoronix.com, to whom he sent this e-mail:

We are running into a bunch of performance issues in Linux drivers (e.g. 50 millisecond draw calls because the driver is compiling a shader).

We’d like to hire someone to work on these performance issues. If you know of anyone we should be talking to, I’d appreciate getting connected with them.

Valve, Bellevue

This is good news not just for Linux users but for the health of the OS itself; Valve releasing games for Linux could be a big step forward for the penguin.

Watch your back, Microsoft.
