American McGee’s next game takes Little Red Riding Hood to Japan

11 April 2012

If you’ve ever wondered how the story of Little Red Riding Hood would have been different if it was a dungeon crawl ’em up set in post-feudal Japan, you’re in luck – that’s totally American McGee’s next project.

According to Kotaku, Akaneiro is an action-RPG that casts Little Red Riding Hood and her buddies as demon hunters pledged to the professional demon hunting Order of Akane, who must hunt all the demons in a local village. Standard demon hunting stuff. The blood of the demons is then recycled into Karma Shards, which the Order harvests, so there’s obviously some vested interest there.

Apparently Ms Hood has moved onto bigger things than big bad wolves since we last saw her.

The game’s in development for PC browsers and tablets, and will be free to play but not “spammy”, pinky swear. No launch date yet, but there’s a beta scheduled for “later this year”.
