Xbox Kinect coming to Windows Phone 8 devices

Microsoft Kinect, a motion- and voice-based controller for the Xbox 360 gaming console, will work with Windows Phone 8 devices according to VR-Zone.

The technology giant is apparently working on integrating the Kinect Natural User Interface with its upcoming mobile operating system refresh.

While Microsoft is dedicating “a number of resources” to the project, the biggest hurdle seems to be the lack of room for Kinect cameras on smartphones.

“Kinect has three cameras, one of which his infrared. We can’t put an IR camera on a smartphone, and without it, NUI won’t work in dark,” said the unnamed source speaking to VR-Zone.

Microsoft is integrating the technology hoping that the feature will spur consumer demand for the platform.
