Valve’s Steam Box is back in the news

13 April 2012

Remember that Valve console that was maybe a thing, then maybe wasn’t a thing, then everybody got distracted by Mass Effect 3 and forgot about it? It’s back.

For years, Valve has been all about writing software that provides great gameplay experiences. Now we’re developing hardware to enhance those experiences, and you can be a key part of making that happen.

That’s the introductory blurb on a Valve HQ job vacancy for an electronics engineer to “join our highly motivated team that’s doing hardware design, prototyping, testing, and production across a wide range of platforms,” and just so it’s perfectly clear, “We’re not talking about me-too mice and gamepads here – help us invent whole new gaming experiences.”

According to the ad, the employee would “work with the hardware team to conceive, design, evaluate, and produce new types of input, output, and platform hardware”.

Putting two and two together makes four, and Gabe Newell has four chins. It’s all adding up, people.
