Chatting with a Spanish newspaper, El Mundo, Mario creator, Shigeru Miyamoto expressed his plans to unveil a new Mario game, planned for the successor to the Wii, the Wii U.
“In a recent interview, Mr. Miyamoto confirmed that a new Super Mario Bros. game for the Wii U system will be shown at this year’s E3 Expo,” a Nintendo spokesperson said. “We’ll have more to announce about our plans for the E3 Expo at a later date.”
“Miyamoto, who smiled during all the interview – even when he wants to change the topic because ‘it’s not the moment’ to talk about Wii U – thinks that the experience and the new game modes of this new console won’t be ‘easily replicated in other devices’, which will allow them to escape the new tablet competition.
Afterwards, Nintendo confirmed the report, and promised more information soon.
The legendary designer also revealed that work on a new Pikmin was in works for the Wii U, and a new Luigi’s Mansion installment for the 3DS.
Nintendo also recently snatched up the SuperMario4.com domain – could this be the Wii U Mario game Miyamoto is talking about? Time will tell when E3 rolls around in June.
Check out the Wii U’s tech demonstration, which showcases an awfully well-built Mario “demo”. Hmmmm…
