Rob ‘PandaTank’ Botha has taken the Leg 1 Champions Cup of the StarCraft 2 DGL 2012 league after beating close rival Travis ‘Shase’ Wheedon.
The two have encountered one another often, but Botha was able to come out on top this time around.
Botha played with Protoss, while Weedon took Terran, with Botha winning 2-0.
In reference to the first of the two games, Botha said: “Weedon took some unfavourable engagements which allowed me to get pretty far ahead in army value and after that, the game was over.”
It was a similar trend in the second game as Botha said “[holding off attacks] put me into an an enormous lead in the game and I was able to continue upgrading constantly off two forges, expanding and massing gateway units. The next big engagement was the last”.
The Cup Champion mentioned that the games felt relatively easy. “In terms of the local level of play in StarCraft 2, I feel not much has changed at all since last year, which is kind of sad. I do feel that I have personally improved a lot since last year though,” Botha said.
The third place playoff also took place last night and saw Kyle ‘HellsHound’ Haward from Vitriolic Gaming take the third spot above Francois ‘BlooD-Clot’ Malan from Konsentrasie Knights. That match ended 2-1.
Leg 2 kicks-off on April 24th.
