New Super Mario Bros 2 coming to 3DS in August

22 April 2012

A new Mario game will be hitting the 3DS in August, Nintendo has announced in their Nintendo Direct live stream on Saturday.

The new game, with the original title of New Super Mario Bros. 2, will be going back to its roots with side-scrolling 2D action – the way Mario should be played. Here’s an extract from the English press release:

“New Super Mario Bros. 2 is a traditional side-scrolling adventure game featuring Mario, Luigi and loads of other favorite characters from the popular Mario series. The game was created specifically as a pick-up-and-play experience that can be instantly enjoyed by players of all skill levels on the Nintendo 3DS system.”

Nintendo seem to have a clear vision for the game, a classic feel that anyone can instantly relate to, and that gets me excited. Mario is at its best in its traditional platformer environment, and hopefully Nintendo can deliver a really cool game.
