Trials Evolution sets new day-one XBLA sales record

Who wouldn’t want to crash bikes all over the world? Nobody, that’s who, because it turns out pretty much everybody bought RedLynx’s Trials Evolution when it launched on the Xbox LIVE Arcade last week.

The game has reportedly smashed its way through all previous XBLA day-one sales records, and faceplanted at the very top. It’s also one of the most highly-rated XBLA games on Metacritic, now averaging at 91.

Although the actual sales figures weren’t revealed to the public, the clever people at Gamasutra worked out that if you count the number of people on the game’s online leaderboards, you could get some idea of how many people have the game. Genius.

By their reckoning, over 100,000 people had the game on launch day, including a friend of mine who invited a bunch of us over to play it on Saturday night, and we all drank Archer’s peach schnapps just like in high school and the next day, I couldn’t remember much but everything smelled like Archer’s peach schnapps and kids, that’s how I met your mother.
