Jaffe shares thoughts on God of War: Ascension

Creator and director of the original God of War, David Jaffe, has expressed his thoughts on the recently revealed multiplayer for God of War: Ascension, as well as his lost co-op plans for the series.

The online multiplayer will be a first for the epic god-killing series, and despite fans worrying that the single player will suffer because of it, David Jaffe is confident in Sony Santa Monica’s abilities.

“I think it looks cool,” he said to IGN, reflecting on the footage. “It looks like another great, impeccably executed Sony Santa Monica game.”

Speaking about the concern for the single player’s quality, Jaffe said: “I think that anger is well deserved for people who have felt that way for certain games, but I think so far — you know what I was Tweeting about was — Sony Santa Monica, and certainly that team, really hasn’t done anything ever to let people down as game developers.”

David Jaffe also revealed some of his previous ideas, most notably when he was considering co-directing God of War III, which was possibly going to feature co-op.

Although he never needed it, Kratos was maybe going to have a sidekick throughout his adventure, with the co-op explaining a different spin on the fiction.

“It was kind of like a hyper-violent, screwball comedy where they hated each other but they had to work together — which [was] totally stupid.”
