Everyone and their cousin is either anxiously counting the days to Diablo 3, or lamenting the day they lose their significant other to an alternate reality. There’s no doubt about it – Diablo 3 is one of the most highly anticipated releases of the last decade.
It’s no surprise then that Sterne Agee analyst Arvind Bhatia is expecting the game to sell several million copies. 3.5 million copies this year to be exact, and over 4 million during its lifetime.
“We think Diablo III, which is releasing after a gap of 12 years since the launch of Diablo II, has the potential to sell more than 4 million units life-time… We note that Diablo II had sold 4M units by August 2001 or 14 months following its initial release in June 2010,” he said.
In addition to game sales, Bhatia sees Diablo 3 as having an influence on Activision stock, maintaining a “buy” rating with a $17 target, if you’re into that sort of thing.
Do you think Bhatia’s estimate is too conservative, spot on or exaggerated?
