Avengers: Battle for Earth announced

The Avengers movie has dominated the worldwide box-office (as expected), and what better time for the superhero squad to make the jump to consoles?

Ubisoft have announced that Avengers: Battle for Earth will be coming to Xbox 360 and Wii-U, bringing the antics of Marvel’s long-running hero-gathering onto home consoles.

“We are excited to team up with Marvel Entertainment to bring some of the most iconic comic book characters from the Marvel line-up to life in motion-gaming,” said Ubisoft’s Geoffroy Sardin.

Battle for Earth will feature all the expected heroes, such as Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America and Thor, as well as other superheroes from the Avengers history and comics.

The story won’t be directly tied into the recently released film, and will instead revolve around the Secret Invasion storyline from the comic books.

Andreea Enache-Thune, senior vice president of games and digital distribution at Marvel, also feels that the game is the right fit for incorporating Kinect and Wii-U’s expected motion applications into the game.

“We are confident that Ubisoft’s talent matches Marvel’s own commitment to making the Avengers: Battle for Earth the best in the motion-controlled gaming category.”

Video of a cancelled Avengers game hit the interwebz soon after it’s demise, one that looked like a potential motion controlled experience. Could Ubisoft be reviving the project?
