Despite being an MMO, Elder Scrolls Online will feature “100 percent solo” sections for the main story. According to game director Matt Firor, they want the emphasis to be on the player as the main hero of the story.
“In the Elder Scrolls games you’re always the hero, whether you want to or not,” Firor said.
“The last thing you want to do is have the final confrontation with Mehrunes Dagon as he’s stomping across the imperial city and you see like 15 guys behind you waiting to kill him because they’re on the same quest.
“So as MMO online designers, the thing we needed to make sure we hit the most was that feeling that you’re awesome, you’re the hero, and we do that through a mix of technology where, when I am confronting a major foe in the game I’m doing it in an instance where I’m alone,” he went on.
“We have a whole part of the game that’s 100 percent solo which is the main story where the world focuses on you, you’re the hero. Everything you do is solo and the world reacts to you that way.”

I hate it when they force the hero charade onto you from start to finish, I think its SO detrimental to a RPG’s dynamic and motivation. When you’ve barely started the game and already everyones in awe of your status and you feel like your the center of attention, you dont appreciate being a hero at all and it feels like a tiresome cinematic.
Thats one thing I LOVED about the first Fable, you start off and you have fleas following you and people look down on you mockingly ”You chase chickens?! Oh look at the chicken chaser.” haha classic. And by the end of the game those same people could be quivering in fear of you, or saluting you with respect, you really feel like you accomplished something.
You can even complete the main story and arise a hero, but still be considered the hopeless town drunk if you prove yourself to be… brilliant
