The International e-Sport Federation (IeSF) has announced that it will be holding a women’s event for TEKKEN and StarCraft II at the 2012 World Championships, taking place in Cheon-an City, South Korea from the 4th to 8th of October 2012.
The IeSF is attempting to put more weight on the promotion for female participation in keeping with the Sport Accord and IOC movement.
Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA), an affiliate of the South African Confederation of Sport and Olympic Committee, has announced that women who enter MSSA events in TEKKEN and StarCraft II – and who finish within the top three – will earn a place at the National Team Trials to be held in August. At these trials, both the women’s and men’s teams will be selected to go to South Korea in October 2012.
There are already two women who have qualified for the trials, Playing TEKKEN.
The two gamers who have already qualified are:
- Lyrene Kuhn – KMSC – (Free State Championships)
- Marushka Bosch – KMSC – (Gauteng Championships)
With the Mpumalanga Championships, Western Cape Championships, KwaZulu Natal Championships and online championships still to be played, it will be more than interesting to see the list of qualifiers grow.
