Yakuza 5 taking its name to heart

23 May 2012

Sega have been teasing a new Yakuza-related reveal on their official site, and some new details have slipped out surrounding their upcoming instalment in the open-world beat-’em-up series.

Yakuza 5 is the alleged incoming announcement, and rolling with the namesake, the game is set to feature 5 cities and 5 playable characters.

The series has previously had four playable characters, and assuming that they will remain unchanged, the new character is said to be Shinada, a former professional baseball player who has a debt to his name.

Story-wise, Yakuza 5 should continue where the previous game left off, with all the main characters getting on with their lives.

Designer Toshihiro Nagoshi mentioned that the game will use a new engine (thank heavens), because the recent Dead Souls spin-off was starting to look a little dated. Better controls and a better script are also promised for the “New Yakuza”.

The game is said to be called ‘Ryu ga Gotoku 5: Yume Kanaeshi Mono’, which (in case you didn’t notice) is the Japanese title for the series, with the rough translation reading as: ‘Yakuza 5: Person Who Fulfils Dreams.’

Yakuza 5 is rumoured to be out in December for Playstation 3.
