Names banned in Diablo III – let’s start a list!

Looks like the people over at Blizzard HQ are maintaining a strict policy on Battle.net about user names. Well, depending on what you deem offensive anyway.

Over on Destructoid, Jim Sterling has been putting Diablo III’s bad word filter through its paces, and it turns out you can’t call yourself “Christian” (bummer if that’s, you know, your real name) or “Islam”, but “Muhammad” gets a free pass. No “Atheist” allowed, nor “Mormon”, “Hindu, or “Catholic”, but “Buddhism” is okay. Apparently in Diablo, all religions are neither equally false nor true.

“Scientology” is okay for the moment, but it’s probably only a matter of time until Tom Cruise threatens to sue.

There’s something kind of weird about banning religious names in a game that’s all about, well, battling the winged, shrieking legions of Hell and its dread lord himself. What kind of apocalypse training simulator is this supposed to be, anyway?
