Developer Crystal Dynamics has unveiled their pre-E3 2012 Tomb Raider trailer, giving us a taste of what the reboot has in store, along with a release date.
Tomb Raider is now pegged for release on 5 March 2013, presumably the North American date. If history has taught us anything, this means it’s likely headed for an 8 March 2013 release in South Africa and Europe.
In the trailer we get a look at some of the challenging situations and environments the new-look Lara Croft will find herself in. Gameplay snippets include Lara using her hunting bow, platforming her way across treacherous terrain, fighting off enemies, and scraping through some near-death set-pieces.
Finer details to look out for include the environmental touches, such as Lara being covered in dirt and blood following her battles.
Tomb Raider is an origin-story reboot for the series, and will feature a much more natural looking and “real” Lara Croft in her upcoming adventure. The story begins with Lara involved in a shipwreck off the coast of Japan.
Crystal Dynamics has previously highlighted that they want to tell the transition story of Lara Croft from a young and naive college student into the toughened archaeologist we have come to know.
Although the game was recently delayed into 2013 so that things could be polished up, Square Enix have promised to show-off some more of Lara’s rebooted adventure at E3 2012, happening next week: 5-7 June.
