Nintendo’s pre-E3 conference has revealed a few little surprises ahead of the big show this week.
The game company showed off some things regarding their forthcoming console, the Wii U, most notably their new controller which will appeal to traditional gamers.
The new controller works separately to the redesigned tablet controller (now known as the Wii U Gamepad), and appears as a more conventional control option for gamers not enamoured with Nintendo’s motion-enabled tablet.
The Pro Controller features all the face-buttons, D-pad, shoulder buttons and analogues that appear on the GamePad, although, it takes the form of a more compact shape, rather similar to that of the Xbox 360’s controller.
Back to the GamePad (leaked images of which have proven true) – which also received some new information and details from Nintendo president Satoru Iwata himself.
The tablet-like controller will support near-field communication for pairing it with the TV and console by touch.
An added ‘TV’ button also appears on the control, which will manage switching the TV’s image onto the GamePad for portable play. The GamePad can also be utilised as a remote control for normal TV viewing.
Wii U will also feature the Miiverse, which will be a social hub of other players’ Mii’s in order to create a new accessible online community. The service will also allow users to make posts on message boards, regarding a specific game or topic. The video shows a player struggling with a boss, and in turn, posts about it online. Other Wii U users can chime in and give their advice (or similar despair).
Other features, such as the built-in video chat were also shown, although no particular details on those capabilities were given.
Expect all the little intricacies to slip out when Nintendo reveal their line-up and what the Wii U can really do during their full E3 presentation.
