Valve team up with 9 director for next film

If Valve haven’t already proven that they can do it all, the talented company are now going to assist in building a new animated movie project.

The game company is teaming up with Shane Acker, who directed the 2009 animated movie, 9, which featured the voice work of Elijah Wood and Jennifer Connelly.

Brown Bag Films (now in association with Valve) are cooperatively developing a new film called Deep.

Deep will be set in post-World War III apocalyptic environment – it is an underwater adventure film and will use Valve’s Source engine to help out with animation duties.

Acker's '9' was a critical and commercial success.

The Source engine will allow real-time rendering, editing and simplified character animation to be implemented within the project, with the engine also allowing for the movie to be easily adapted to a video game (if that’s what the plan is).

Brown Bag is also said to be interested in distributing the movie on Steam’s digital platform.

The project is currently in pre-production, although should hit full swing within the very near future.
