Abe’s Oddysee to get “from-the-ground-up remake”

Okay, so I’ve got bad news and good news.

The bad news is, Just Add Water has cancelled its HD update of the PSOne and PC slig ‘n’ slog-’em-upper, Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee.

The good news is, they’ve cancelled it because they’ve decided to rebuild and reboot the game completely, and then possibly grind it down into some kind of exciting new novelty meat snack. Maybe not that last bit.

“Ok so here’s the skinny on “Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee”…,” reads a notice over on the official Oddworld Inhabitants Facebook page. “We decided to reboot it, not just an HD update to the original PS1 title, this is a NEW game. It will be getting it’s first public showing LATER this year, with a release date of NEXT summer (2013).”

According to Oddworld-everything custodian Just Add Water, the game is a total remake, although it’s not yet clear whether the game will remain a side-scrolling platformer as it before.

“We are re-making Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee, however we didn’t want the impression to be that we were just doing a port of the PSone title with higher res art,” JAW’s Stewart Gilray told VG247.

“We are starting from scratch on this one, using the original as the blueprint for the game. So technically it’s not a new game, but a from-the-ground-up remake.”
