Epic recently showed off their tech’s visual prowess with their Unreal Engine 4 real-time demo, and gamers who’ve seen the video and screens will be glad to know that the first game powered by the engine isn’t that far away.
Mark Rein, VP at Epic, revealed that a game utilising the Unreal Engine 4 is set to be released within 2013.
CVG asked the studio exec when gamers should expect the engine to make its first in-game appearance, with Rein responding: “I don’t know. For sure something next year, I just don’t know exactly when.”
While no date or details were given about what game it will power, it’s still an exciting prospect given the impressive nature of the tech demonstration.
Rein went on to address the importance of showcasing the engine properly and at the right time.
“It’s certainly important for us to have our flagship game. That’s the game for which we develop the engine. Gears of War was the game for which Unreal Engine 3 was developed, and so shipping that has a huge significance for licensees and for us. I think, for Unreal Engine 4, there’ll certainly be a couple of games”, he said.
