Mweb GameZone King of the Console Tournament gets R10K prize boost

After last week’s announcement of Mweb GameZone’s King of the Console Tournament, Microsoft have jumped in to support the cause and upped the bounty on the prize.

Thanks to Microsoft South Africa, along with BT Games, the Xbox team have got a lot to play for. If the Xbox team manage to take down the PS3 players, Microsoft and BT Games will throw in R10,000 worth of vouchers – that’s R2500 for each member of the team.

No pressure.

The King of the Console Tournament will use Modern Warfare 3 as the benchmark, and will put players against one another in Free For All (FFA) matches to determine the top 16 spots for each console.

The first round eliminations take place on the 17th of June. Once those 16 spots have been determined, competitors will then all meet up at the MWEB MCave on 22 June, where the battle will continue until the best 4 FFA players from each console emerge. The final 4 on Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 will then represent their console and battle it out to determine which platform provides the most skilful players.

Bragging rights, Microsoft and BT Games’ vouchers are not the only prizes on offer, as Mweb and Apex Interactive have put together some winner’s-spoils valued at over R25,000, including gear from Gioteck.
