Official MacBook 2012 recommended pricing for SA confirmed

14 June 2012

Core Group, the Value Added Distributor for Apple in Southern Africa, has announced the recommended retail price guidance for the new range of Apple laptops.

“The new range will be available soon through selected Apple Authorised Resellers and Apple Premium Resellers,” Core said in a press statement issued today (14 June 2012).

Apple launched its “next generation MacBook Pro” and refreshed its existing line of MacBooks on Monday (11 June 2012) at its Worldwide Developer Conference event in San Francisco.

A 2012 MacBook in its default configuration would cost more-or-less the same in the US as its predecessor did, Apple announced. Only the 13-inch MacBook Air got a different price – a $100 cut from $1,299 to $1,199.

The MacBook Pro with Retina display was set to cost as much as a high-end 15-inch MacBook Pro in its default configuration.

Based on Core’s price guidance, however, this pricing trend doesn’t seem to apply to South Africa. The table below compares the previous pricing of a default configuration laptop to the newly announced pricing.

MacBook Air 11-inch 64GB R9,999 R10,499
MacBook Air 11-inch 128GB R12,999 R11,999

Core cautioned that these prices were recommended retail prices only and resellers are responsible for determining their own prices for the resale of products.
