Dead Space 3 has left gamers with a relatively torn reaction after the introduction of co-op play and a cover system, which were both shown at EA’s E3 presentation.
While skepticism is running wild, developer Visceral Games promise that the game will feature the spine-chilling and horror-infused gameplay elements which made the first two games so well-received.
The Dead Space team have now released a 20-minute gameplay video highlighting some of the new additions, and to prove that the frights are alive and well in the upcoming entry into the series.
The premise of Dead Space 3 picks up after a crash-landing on a hostile new planet known as Tau Volantis, and series hero Isaac Clarke discovers that this planet could be the key to ending the Necromorph infestation. In his violent hunt for answers, Isaac must battle subzero, icy conditions and deadly, highly-evolved enemies including all-new Necromorphs, gigantic boss creatures and even misguided zealot humans.
Fortunately, someone over at Visceral coded in co-op during their coffee break, and Isaac is not alone. Players can choose to team-up with a friend or belligerent internet stranger at any time in the game with a drop-in/drop-out co-op feature. Players that game in pairs will experience additional story details and gameplay mechanics only found when playing as the co-op character, Earthgov Sergeant John Carver.
Dead Space 3 is set for a winter 2013 release, which means summer down here in the hemisphere that matters. In the meantime, read more of MyGaming’s Dead Space 3 coverage.
