Wii U won’t have pre-owned game prevention

While the debate surrounding pre-owned (or secondhand) games ruining the video game industry continues, Nintendo have come out with a realistic stance on the matter.

Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s EVP of sales and marketing, recently said that the company has no plans on preventing used games being played on their systems.

Moffitt said that Nintendo has no “formal position on used game sales”, but elaborated to say that the company isn’t looking to impede the purchase of secondhand games.

“It is a reality in the marketplace,” he said. “We haven’t incorporated any features that will discourage used game sales at this point. We’re not trying to circumvent that.”

The controversy surrounding the future (or lack thereof) of used games escalated when rumours emerged regarding Sony’s next console, which supposedly may block pre-owned games.
