SA Game Dev shut down, Make Games SA launched

22 June 2012

“I would rather be ashes than dust! I would rather be a superb meteor, every atom of me in magnificent glow, than a sleepy and permanent planet,” said Jack London, trying to compile the code for his latest AI pathfinding routine, before giving up and deciding to write a book.

For those not active among the local game development scene, a cornerstone of the community has been shut down – SA Game Dev is no more.

Website operator Jacques “Korax” Krige communicated the closer through a tweet:

Game developers are a creative bunch though, and from the ashes has arisen Make Games SA. The site was created by Danny “dislekcia” Day of local indie dev success story, QCF.

In his welcoming post on the website, Day said: “This forum was created after the untimely demise of SA Game Dev, a forum that had recently started turning into a positive and functional community. I hope that we can take the same spirit that was blossoming there and infuse it into this place.”

Things are very much in the birthing stage, so now is as good a time as any to get on over to Make Games SA and support SA’s aspiring game developers, whether you are one yourself, or merely have a passing interest in the hobbyist pursuit.
