Google reveals Nexus 7 tablet PC, Nexus Q media hub

Google has announced its Nexus 7 tablet PC at it’s I/O conference in San Francisco today (27 June 2012). Google said their new 7-inch tablet is built specifically for Google Play and will run the latest version of Android (4.1), named Jelly Bean.

The Nexus 7 features a 1280×800 IPS display, a 1.3GHz quad-core Tegra 3 CPU and a 12-core GPU.

The device has a 1.2-megapixel front-facing camera, and is well connected with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and near field communications capabilities.

The Nexus 7 weighs 340 grams and is 10.45mm thick.

According to Google, the Nexus 7 will be the first Android device that ships with Chrome as its standard browser.

Google said that they are making the Nexus 7 available for order today, starting at $199. People who purchase the Nexus 7 will get $25 credit to spend in the Google Play store.

The device will start to ship in July.

Google Nexus Q

At the same event, Google unveiled its Nexus Q home entertainment server. The Nexus Q is essentially a small, Android powered computer that connects to a user’s cloud media.

The Nexus Q plugs into a user’s TVs and speakers at home, and can then stream music and videos from Google Play.

According to Google it is the first social media player, and will allow anyone with an Android device to play music by connecting to the Nexus Q and streaming media to the server.

The device sports optical digital audio and micro-HDMI outputs, and has near field communications and Bluetooth connectivity to make it easy to set up and pair with a phone.

The device will sell for $299 from the Google Play store, and can be ordered immediately. However, the device will only start to ship in July.
