E-mail addresses leaked in Watch Dogs ARG promo goof

Oh man, somebody over Ubisoft HQ is in big trouble today – a promotional mailer for the Watch Dogs alternate reality game apparently added five hundred recipient addresses to the public CC field instead of the private BCC field, meaning those addresses can be seen by anybody who gets it.

According to a report on VideoGamer, people who’d signed up with the dotconnexion ARG were sent the e-mail last night about an update to the website. Users affected by the admin muck-up include those addresses beginning with a number or the letter A, and as a result, have been hit with loads of unsolicited e-mails, presumably advertising items of the genital enhancement variety.

I can’t be the only person amused by the irony of this happening in the context of a game that exploits public user information as a gameplay mechanism. Ubisoft has yet to comment on the leak, but if they play this right, it could be passed off as a clever meta-game. Maybe. Probably not.
