Rocksmith pricing, launch date confirmed for SA

So far, Ubisoft’s guitar-god training simulator Rocksmith has only launched in North America.

The game and it’s real-deal guitar bundle (none of that Fisher Price plastic junk) has now been confirmed for South African release, along with pricing info.

During a press briefing held on 19 July 2012, Megarom Interactive spokesperson Devon Stanton said that the game should be hitting SA retail on 9 November 2012, for PC, Xbox 360, and PS3.

This is a bit later than the European release date of 11 October, presumably because of a guitar quarantine period to ensure that no nasty European folk-music penetrates our borders and perverts the musical styling of Kurt Darren’s next album.

Stanton explained that Rocksmith should be considered a guitar learning tool presented in a gaming environment, and gamers should expect to be challenged to improve their skill as they progress.

Rocksmith is available in two versions. The standard retail package includes the game and the required “Real Tone” cable – a USB to 1/4-inch jack converter that works with any electric guitar. This will hit the shelves with a recommended retail price (RRP) of R899.

The “Collector’s Edition” comes with the game, the Real Tone cable, and through a partnership with Gibson, will include an Epiphone Les Paul Junior electric guitar. This is pegged at an RRP of R2,499.

The version of Rocksmith shipped to SA will include the new Bass mode, offering players the opportunity to play bass guitar on all supported on-disc and downloadable songs. Players can also use any 6-string guitar to emulate a 4-string bass.

All songs can be played in two-player with one person playing the bass part and the other the guitar part. To this end, an additional True Tone cable can be purchased for an RRP of R349.
