The new ultra-slim PS3 4000 series has been in and out of headlines recently, but apparently it won’t be making any kind of appearance at Gamescom in August, as was previously assumed.
That’s according to new information via VG247’s industry flies-on-walls, who are also buzzing that the rumoured 16GB model with built-in flash memory and top-loading optical drive is a – bzzzbzzzbzzz – real thing, probably intended to go up against Microsoft’s cheap 4GB Xbox SKU.
The new PS3 was allegedly supposed to be shown at Gamescom, but high stock levels of current models have put that on hold.
Whenever the official announcement is made, it reportedly “may” also be accompanied by a significant price cut, although no actual numbers are being listed for now. This is probably going to be the final iteration of Sony’s current generation console until a new one is launched, although when that’s going to happen is anybody’s guess. My Magic 8-Ball says “UNLIKELY”, but it might not have understood the question properly.
In the meantime then, here’s a leaked photo of the late Steve Jobs with the new PS3 that’s totally legit. I say “leaked”, but I might actually mean “Photoshopped because I have too much time on my hands”. Might.
