Modern Warfare 2 Prestige gets local pricing

Boxgaming.co.za spotted a Twitter post from Kalahari Games revealing that the online retailer will sell the Prestige Edition of the highly anticipated Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 for R2299.95.

The Prestige Edition has garnered a high degree of attention due to the fact that it will feature fully operational Modern Warfare 2 branded night-vision goggles. Apart from the night-vision goggles, the Prestige pack will also include a copy of the original Call of Duty.

Activision announced two weeks ago that the Prestige Edition would sell for $149 (R1200) in the USA.

This pricing is not final, but Megarom did confirm to Xboxgaming that the price can be taken as a ball park figure.  Kalahari Games’ does mention in its tweet that “much cheaper Kalahari.net preorders will be up tomorrow”.

Kalahari.net is not however the only online store that has published pricing on the Prestige Edition. Wantitall.co.za currently has the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the Prestige pack on preorder for R1818 each, undercutting Kalahari’s price by almost R500. Wantitall imports items directly from the USA as opposed to Kalahari which goes through local distribution chains.

Unfortunately, PC owners will not be receiving a Prestige Edition, as Activision will only be releasing the pack for PS3 and Xbox 360. We did stumble across these bad-boys on Wantitall; fully functional night-vision goggles for R1170, and Zaps has Modern Warfare 2 on preorder for R368 and is selling the original Call of Duty Deluxe pack for R48.

PC owners can therefore build their own custom Prestige pack for R1586.

In all seriousness though, we await final pricing details and are anticipating a significant reduction on Kalahari’s pre-order price. Prices are also likely to come down once more retailers start getting on board.
